Popular roof coatings are either asphalt-based or acrylic-based. Industrial roofing contractors apply the coating by rolling, spraying or brushing the base coat and then the top coat over the membrane. You can also find polyurethane, elastomeric and silicone coatings. The coating used for any particular roof is dependent on the type of substrate: TPO, PVC, built-up roofing or EPDM. Certain substrates have adhesion requirements.

It should be declared structurally sound after a thorough inspection by a professional. There must not be any moisture problems. Finally, your roof should not be older than 15 years; otherwise, it would be a waste of coating, as your roof is likely to develop leaks, cracks and peels very soon.
